Higher education is now significantly more expensive, and more students are now having trouble paying for their studies on their own.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides money to students in need on behalf of the federal government.In order to promote equal access to education and foster a diverse and capable workforce, the government invests a sizable amount of money in higher education and training each year.
To obtain an NSFAS bursary, students must, however, meet the eligibility standards. To find out if you qualify, look at the list of requirements on the NSFAS website.
If you are eligible to apply for a bursary:
- You are a citizen of South Africa;
Your annual household income is not more than R350 000 combined;
You have received a grant from SASSA;
You are enrolling for the first time in an undergraduate program at a public university, or you are enrolled in one of the National Certificate Vocational or report 191 programs at a TVET college;
You are submitting an application to pursue a degree at a TVET college or public university;
You are enrolled in a university and have a household income of less than R122, 000 annually;
You are eligible for NSFAS funding to attend a TVET college after passing grades 9 and 10;
To be eligible for NSFAS funding to attend a university, you must have passed 12th grade.
