Send an e-mail with your student number to :
- Examinations@unisa.ac.za in the Assignment Section (Formative Assessment).
- The Assignment Division’s objective is to prepare and register all written, electronic, and MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) assignments and assignment marks in order to provide Unisa clients with an effective service.
General information
Unisa wants its students to succeed in their studies and to be well-prepared for their exams.
This is why we require all of our students to complete a set amount of assignments per course before taking an exam.
The assignment questions are usually detailed in Tutorial Letter 101 (102 for first-year B Com students).
The instructors will provide more information about the assignment requirements.
Available assignment submission methods [Excluding FI concessions]
A. Facsimiles and e-mail submissions
- Unfortunately, the University is unable to receive and process assignments sent by facsimile machines (telefax) or e-mail.
Instead, submit your assignments through myUnisa. - You can contact us via e-mail if you have any questions concerning your tasks.
There will be no marking of assignments submitted by fax or e-mail. - assign@unisa.ac.za is the exclusive e-mail address for inquiries.
In the topic heading, write your student number.
B. Postal Submissions
Due to sporadic non-delivery of postal items and postal strikes, postal submissions should be sent through courier or delivered to a Unisa regional office if they can’t be done through myUnisa.
It is possible to track the location of a parcel via registered mail.
Requirements for postal submissions
- Where an assignment involves the use of a MARK-READING SHEET, you should read the section ‘INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE USE OF MARK-READING SHEETS’ in the my Studies Brochure.
- For written assignments, students who wish to compile their assignments on a word processor must provide their own paper, which must be the same size as the official assignment pads (i.e. A4). The quality of the type (font) should be legible and the format of the assignment should be in double spacing. A blank space of 5 centimeters must be left on the right-hand side of each page (for the lecturer’s feedback). The other requirements applicable to the completion and submission of assignments must still be strictly adhered to.
- Students who do not have access to a word processor must complete their assignments on the writing paper provided.
- Take careful note of the lecturer’s instructions given in tutorial letters and the printed instructions on assignment covers.
Requirements for assignment covers
Please ensure that all the information you have given is correct: (Each hard-copy assignment must have it’s own assignment cover. Do not attach assignments to each other.)
- your student number
- the course code
- the assignment number
- Student’s Initials and Surname
- Student’s Address
- Unique number
- Cell Phone number
Incorrect or incomplete information will very probably cause your work to be marked late, if it is marked at all.
Each completed assignment page must be numbered sequentially.
- Before you staple the pages inside the cover, double-check that they are in the correct order.
Even if it’s a fill-in assignment, make sure your student number, study unit code, and assignment number show on the first page. - Each assignment must be stapled and posted separately inside its own cover.
Attaching several assignments to one another and submitting different elements of the same assignment independently are not acceptable.Your graded written work will be returned to you through email. - As a result, your name, address, and ZIP code must be written properly and legibly.
- On the assignment cover, all of the information was filled in accurately.Marked assignments are typically returned about five weeks following the assignment’s due date.
Assignment boxes for postal submissions
- Please put your completed assignments in the assignment boxes shown below if you reside near Pretoria, Midrand, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Polokwane (Pietersburg), Nelspruit, or Durban and prefer to deliver them personally.
- Please do not place money-filled envelopes in any of the assignment boxes.
The student is responsible for proving that the University received an assignment.
As a result, registered mail, courier, or myUnisa (on-line) submissions, as well as submissions at a Unisa Regional Office, are the preferred methods of submission. - Unisa does everything possible to ensure that assignments reach us safely, but the University cannot take responsibility for loss of assignments if assignment boxes are damaged or set on fire.
- Assignments posted to the University must be in the envelopes supplied to you when you registered. You must retain copies of all your assignments to make provision for the unfortunate event if your assignment is not received by the lecturer or if the on-line submission is corrupt, you may be required to re-submit a copy.
- Except for weekends and public holidays, the assignment boxes are emptied daily by Unisa staff. The collection time is approximately 07:00.
