The application period for the 2024 intake at NSFAS has begun. Apply to NSFAS right away if you want to receive funding for the academic year 2024! A bursary is one type of funding that NSFAS provides to TVET College and University students. Not only will receiving funding from NSFAS pay for your tuition, but it will also allow you to cover other expenses associated with being a student.
University Students
- Tuition Fees
- Accommodation in accordance with the actual costs incurred by the university (private accommodation costs must not exceed university residence costs).
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per year
- Living allowance of R15,000 per year
- Book allowances of R5200 per year
- Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per year for students in catered residences
TVET College Students
- Tuition Fees
- Accommodation
- Urban area R24,000 per year
- Peri-urban area R18,900 per year
- Rural area R15,750 per year
- Transport
- up to 40 km from the institution R7,350 per year
- R7000 per year
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per year
NSFAS will also provide assistive devices & human support for applicants with disabilities.
The closing date for NSFAS 2024 applications is 30 November.
When Attending A University The Following Will Be Covered:
- Student accommodation: According to the price list for the university residence, every expense will be covered. Private lodging will only be covered if it is within the price range of university residence.
- Transport: Within 40km of the university.
- Meals: If you live in a student residence, all meals will be covered.
- Book allowances: To cover textbook costs for the study period.
- Incidental/personal care allowance.
When Attending A TVET College The Following Will Be Covered:
- Student accommodation: The cost of lodging in a rural, urban, or periurban setting will be covered.
- Transport: Within 40km of the university.
- Meals: All meals will be covered, if living in a student residence.
- Incidental/personal care allowance.
For Students With A Disability:
- Student accommodation
- Transport
- Meals
- Book allowances
- Incidental/personal care allowance
- Assistive devices: Devices such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, adapted laptops, etc.
- Helpful tools: The cost of these professionals is covered for those who require caregivers or tutors.
