Western College (Westcol) is one of 50 public TVET institutions that make up the Department of Higher Education and Training, as defined by this act. The CET Act is a law that has recently been passed. Western College is a TVET College, as defined by the CET Act, on the list of Public Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges. Public TVET colleges do not require or give registration numbers.

The Further Education and Training (FET) Act, 98 of 1998, governs all FET institutions in South Africa, including both public and private colleges that provide programs in the FET and Higher Education and Training (HET) bands of the National Qualification Framework (NQF). The FET Act was updated by Act 16 of 2006, which renamed it. The Continuous Education and Training (CET) Act, No. 16 of 2006, is the law that governs continuing education and training (as amended).

Western TVET College’s purpose is to deliver high-quality education and training to both students and the community.
For people interested in completing AET levels 1, 2, 3, and 4, they offer a range of courses as well as public adult learning centers (NQF Level 1). Please contact us if you are interested in taking any of the courses we offer.

Report 191/Nated Courses

NC(V) Course Requirements;

  • Students are allowed to study for a maximum of four years for NC (V) Levels 2, 3, and 4 to account for any topic failures.
  • NQF1 (Grade 9) and AET Level 4 are the minimum entry criteria.
  • The NC (V) policy has led and aligned the entry requirements.
    For qualification admission, a point system will be used.

Requirements for 191 Courses

  • The NATED Policy establishes minimum entry standards.
    N4 will admit students who have completed Grade 12/NC (V) Level 4.
  • Students who have completed grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 and choose to pursue a career as an artisan will be admitted to N1 on a point system.

Requirements for Occupational Courses

  • Minimum admittance requirements based on QCTO/SETA- approved registered Skills Programs/Learnerships.
  • A student who has previously enrolled in NC(V) or Report 191 programs will only be considered for an Occupational Program if they have finished the NC(V) or Report 191 program in its entirety (passed all subjects).

Additional Admissions Requirements

  • The College Council has created new admission requirements for NC(V) level 2, Report 191 N1, and Report 191 N4 utilizing a point system in order to improve the quality and performance of specialized programs.
