ABOUT NSFAS
In accordance with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was established.
NSFAS is a bursary program that provides free higher education and training to poor and working-class South African students.
The mission of NSFAS is to provide financial assistance to students from low-income and working-class households who wish to attend public universities and technical colleges

Former President Jacob Zuma declared on December 16, 2017, that the South African government will gradually implement “totally subsidized free higher education and training for poor and working-class South African students.”

Student funding applications for the 2022 academic year are now open on the NSFAS website.
NSFAS student funding applications for the 2022 academic year are open from September 1 to November 30, 2021.
- You must be a South African citizen to receive government support for university and TVET college study.
- Register in one of the 26 public universities or 50 technical and vocational schools.

NSFAS funding is automatically available to students with impairments and those who receive social subsidies.
Students pursuing postgraduate degrees are not eligible for NSFAS financing; nonetheless, you are urged to apply for support from the National Skill Fund and the National Research Foundation.
NSFAS has hired 200 unemployed NFAS graduates to assist high school students with the application process across the country.
These graduates will aid students in high schools and rural villages where there is no computer or internet connection.
