Here’s what you need to know about 2022 selection and application.
The deadline for applying to Unisa has been extended.
Now is the time to apply!
Unisa is noted for providing access to higher education that is both fair and egalitarian.
Unisa has an application and selection process that effectively tackles historical imbalances without jeopardizing quality standards, as a result of its societal responsibility to correct past inequities.
This procedure encourages a laser-like focus on improving student support and aligning our new student intake with available academic capacity and infrastructure in order to maximize all students’ chances of success.
What is the nature of the selection procedure?
- The calculation of your individual points score, which takes into consideration your final Grade 12 grades as well as other crucial characteristics such as your gender, socioeconomic group, race, and so on, is at the heart of the selection process.
- Please confirm whether you meet the statutory and college-specific entrance requirements, as well as the required academics points score (APS) for your selected qualification, before submitting an application (s).
A minimum APS of 15 is required for a higher certificate, an APS of 18 for a diploma, and a minimum APS of 21 for a bachelor’s degree (some exceptions apply). - It’s vital to remember that you won’t be automatically approved to study at Unisa in the first semester of 2020.
- The number of spots available for each qualification will determine how students are accommodated.
The procedure for submitting an application
- A maximum of two qualifications, listed in order of preference, may be applied for (although you may only register for one should both of your qualifications be successful).
- The conclusion of your application will be communicated to you by Unisa.
If you are accepted, Unisa will tell you the qualification you have been accepted for and will offer you a spot for the term you applied for (ie semester 1). - You have a certain amount of time to accept or reject Unisa’s offer.
If you miss the deadline, Unisa will cancel your offer and give your spot to another candidate.
You are only allowed to accept one offer.
- This means that if you accept an offer for one qualification (whether it’s your first or second option), the other will automatically be withdrawn.
- You must register for the period for which you accept Unisa’s offer.
- You must register for the term for which you have been granted admission if you accept Unisa’s offer (ie semester 1).
You will need to reapply for admission during the following application season if you do not register for the relevant semester of study.
Who is required to apply?
- Anyone interested in beginning a new qualification must apply for admission.
This includes first-time Unisa applicants as well as current Unisa students switching to a new qualification and/or specialization. - If you want to continue your undergraduate studies after completing a higher certificate or an alternate pathway / extended program, you must apply for admission.
- If you previously applied for admission and were offered a spot, but did not accept the offer and/or did not register for whatever reason, you must reapply.
- Anyone interested in enrolling in a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college under the Unisa-TVET program.
