ABOUT NSFAS
In accordance with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was established.
NSFAS is a bursary program that provides free higher education and training to poor and working-class South African students.
The mission of NSFAS is to provide financial assistance to students from low-income and working-class households who wish to attend public universities and technical colleges
PROGRAM.
Former President Jacob Zuma declared on December 16, 2017, that the South African government will gradually implement “totally subsidized free higher education and training for poor and working-class South African students.”
The money would be phased in over a five-year period, resulting in the establishment of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) Bursary Scheme.

- Each year, the application opens in August and concludes on September 30.

Who is required to apply?
Unisa Online Application 2023-2024
- Anyone interested in beginning a new qualification must apply for admission.
This includes first-time Unisa applicants as well as current Unisa students who are switching to a new certification. - Applicants must apply for admission to the follow-on qualification after finishing a Higher Certificate or a separate Pathway / Extended Program.
- You’ll have to reapply for entrance to the next level of education
- If you previously applied for admission and received feedback but did not register for any reason, you must reapply.
- Under the Unisa-TVET agreement, anyone who wishes to enroll in classes at a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college must apply for admission.
- Please note: If you previously applied for admission and were offered a spot, but did not accept the offer and/or did not register for whatever reason, you must reapply.
- For online applications, South African applicants must pay a non-refundable application cost of R105.
- Applicants enrolling for a TVET college through Unisa can utilize a hard copy application, which costs R160.
Submitting Documents and Results:
The following materials MUST be included in a full application that is submitted totally online:
- Proof of receipt of your application fee payment (This is a non-refundable compulsory fee for every applicant)
- A certified copy of your ID document (for South African nationals, an ID document is required; your application will not be processed unless you provide a certified copy of your ID and your passport number for international applicants).
- Exam Outcomes:
Grade 12 final results (if available).
The results of grade 11 (if you are now in grade 12) are crucial to your application.
As a result, keep it on hand. - When applying online or by mail, you’ll need a unique email address.
- It’s worth noting that some of the systems do not accept emails from some of the universities:
- It is advisable to create and use a G-mail, Yahoo mail address for the application.

University of South Africa (Unisa) Online Residence Application Only applicants who have successfully applied for admission to the University of South Africa can use the online application.

Note: Results and certified documents must be submitted.
- The applicant must make sure that their Grade 11 and Grade 12 results are up to date.
