INTRODUCTIONS TO NSFAS
In accordance with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was established.
NSFAS is a bursary program that provides free higher education and training to poor and working-class South African students.

The mission of NSFAS is to provide financial assistance to students from low-income and working-class households who wish to attend public universities and technical colleges

UNISA NSFAS PROGRAMS
Former President Jacob Zuma declared on December 16, 2017, that the South African government will gradually implement “totally subsidized free higher education and training for poor and working-class South African students.”
The money would be phased in over a five-year period, resulting in the establishment of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) Bursary Scheme.

Unisa’s Short Learning Programs

  • Unisa’s Short Learning Programs (SLPs) focus on “just in time” and “just enough” learning to meet a specific learning need identified by individuals, organizations or society at large.
  • SLPs are offered by centers located within the different academic departments of Colleges.
  • Program content and contact details are contained in each program. You may also direct questions to ucl@unisa.ac.za. As part of a pilot project, only a select number of programs will be able to apply online. Other programs will be added in 2022.
  • Undergraduate qualifications (higher certificates, diplomas & degrees, advanced certificates, advanced diplomas, BTechs & postgraduate certificates):
    • New & returning students: 10 – 28 June 2021-2022
    • Students awaiting results: 16 July – 16 August 2021-2022
  • Honors degrees & postgraduate diplomas with semester modules:
    • New & returning students: 10 – 28 June 2021-2022
    • Students awaiting results: 16 July – 16 August 2021-2022
  • Master’s & doctoral degrees: Closed (with some exceptions)

Please note:

  • If you are a first-time Unisa applicant and do not have a myLife e-mail address, Unisa will communicate with you via the e-mail address and cellphone number you provided during the application period.
  • If you were previously registered with Unisa, Unisa will send the outcome of your application to your myLife e-mail account. Please check this e-mail account regularly for information. If you have forgotten your myUnisa / myLife password, please go to myUnisa (https://my.unisa.ac.za) to update your password.
  • Unisa provides all registered students with a free myLife e-mail address. It is your responsibility to activate your myLife e-mail account as soon as your registration is finalized.
