As a public technical and vocational education and training institution, Thekwini TVET College seeks to meet its skills development mandate through high-quality teaching and learning as well as sound corporate governance.

According to Section 10(2)(a) of the Continuing Education and Training Act, No 16 of 2006 as amended, Thekwini TVET College presents its 5-year strategic plan for approval to the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
The National Development Plan (NDP) and its implementation plan, as well as the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) Plan and any other relevant documents, were used to build the strategic plan and all other relevant legal prescripts.

Thekwini TVET College strives to assist in the achievement of strategic outcomes and national targets as indicated in the Department’s strategic papers, which include the following two sub-outcomes:
Sub-Outcome 2: Increased access to and success in programs leading to intermediate and high-level learning; and Sub-Outcome 4: Expanded availability of intermediate-level skills, with a particular focus on artisan skills and entrepreneurship.

 NC(V) Courses Requirements

  • In order to account for possible topic failures, students are allowed to study for a maximum of four years for NC (V) Levels 2, 3, and 4.
  • NQF1 (Grade 9) and AET Level 4 are the minimum entry criteria.
  • The NC (V) policy has led and aligned the entry requirements.
    For qualification admission, a point system will be used.

Report 191 Courses Requirements;

  • The NATED Policy establishes minimum entry standards.
    N4 will admit students who have completed Grade 12/NC (V) Level 4.
  • Students who have completed grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 and choose to pursue a career as an artisan will be admitted to N1 on a point system.

 Occupational Courses Requirements

  • Minimum entrance requirements as per registered Skills Program/Learnership approved by QCTO/SETA
  • To be eligible to apply for an Occupational Program a student who previously enrolled for NC(V) or Report 191 programs will only be considered if such a student has fully completed the NC(V) or Report 191 program (passed all subjects).

Additional Requirements for Admission

  • In order to improve the quality and performance of specialized programs, the College Council has established new admission requirements for NC(V) level 2, Report 191 N1, and Report 191 N4 using a point system.
