Short Learning Program Information
The University of South Africa (UNISA) is a public HEI that operates under the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997. A provider registration number from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) or the South African Qualifications Authority is not required by UNISA under this Act (SAQA).
UNISA’s official qualifications are all DHET-approved, CHE-accredited, and NQF-registered (NQF).
- UNISA is able to offer Short Learning Programs (SLPs) to SLP participants because it is an authorized Higher Education Institution.
Short Courses are offered outside of the Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework and are not credit bearing (HEQSF). - The majority of short courses do not result in a formal certificate.on the Framework for National Qualifications (NQF).
Outside of its official organized undergraduate and postgraduate programs, UNISA offers Short Learning Programs (SLPs). - Our SLPs are quality-controlled and presented in compliance with the CHE’s criteria, which may be found in “A Good Practice Guide for the Quality Management of Short Courses Offered Outside of the Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Frame.”
- Universities offering Short Courses outside of the HEQSF will no longer feature NQF and Credit levels on certificates issued to students, in accordance with the aforementioned Good Practice Guide.

- UNISA’s Short Learning Programs focuses on “just-in-time” and “just-enough” learning to address a specific societal learning need.
This requirement could be to increase access to other Short Learning Programs or formal qualifications at UNISA, promote the philosophy of “Lifelong Learning,” or meet a specific need in the workplace. - UNISA’s Short Studying Programs can help you update or enhance your skills and knowledge in a specific field, allowing you to continue learning throughout your life.
Short Learning Programs help students with their continued professional development in this way by upgrading their skills and knowledge in newly developing areas or by sharing research findings. - Colleges and other organizations that develop and offer short-term programs should collaborate and assist one other.course, is critical in ensuring the integrity of the process and activities in an institution’s short course value chain.
