ABOUT NSFAS
In accordance with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was established.
NSFAS is a bursary program that provides free higher education and training to poor and working-class South African students.
The mission of NSFAS is to provide financial assistance to students from low-income and working-class households who wish to attend public universities and technical colleges
How to Apply
If you’re seeking for money for your studies, you’re surely aware that NSFAS is the place to go.
However, you may be unsure how to apply, so here’s a quick guide on how to apply for NSFAS online.
Make sure you have all of your certified supporting documentation on hand.
You’ll need the following items:
- • Identification of parents and/or guardians (or an unabridged birth certificate if you do not have a green bar-coded ID or Smart ID card) (Or death certificate where applicable)
- • A pay stub, a letter of employment, or a pension stub stating income.
It should not be more than three months old (SASSA slips are not required and SASSA should not be included as household income).
To apply for NSFAS online, you must first go to the NSFAS website and create an account.
- You’ll be able to fill out the online application form once you’ve done that.
- This procedure can take up to 30 minutes to complete.
- Certified scanned copies of the following documents are required:
- Birth Certificate/Identity Document
- Latest Academic Results for Matric Certificate
- Proof of your parents’ earnings (if they are employed)
- Certificates of Death (if parents are dead)
- Certificate from a doctor (if permanently disabled)
