The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was established in accordance with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.
NSFAS is a bursary program that provides free higher education and training to South African students from low-income families.

NSFAS’s mission is to provide financial aid to students from low-income and working-class families who want to attend public universities and technical colleges.

How to Apply

You are probably aware that NSFAS is the place to go if you are looking for money for your studies.
However, you might not be sure how to apply, so here is a quick guide to applying online for NSFAS.
Check to see that you have access to all of your certified supporting documentation.

The following items are needed:

• A pay stub, a letter of employment, or a pension stub stating income (or an unabridged birth certificate if you do not have a green bar-coded ID or Smart ID card) • Identification of parents and/or guardians
It shouldn’t be older than three months (SASSA slips aren’t necessary, and SASSA shouldn’t count toward household income).

You must first create an account on the NSFAS website before you can apply for NSFAS online.

You’ll be able to fill out the online application form once you’ve done that.
This procedure can take up to 30 minutes to complete.
Certified scanned copies of the following documents are required:
Birth Certificate/Identity Document
Latest Academic Results for Matric Certificate
Proof of your parents’ earnings (if they are employed)
Certificates of Death (if parents are dead)
Certificate from a doctor (if permanently disabled)
