UCT Financial Aid
- Comprehensive funding based on approved study costs is known as financial aid. The National Bursary Rules and Guidelines of the Department of Higher Education and Training determine annually the approved cost of education.
- Based on the approved cost of their education, eligible students will receive funding from NSFAS; This does not include any penalties or coverage for clubs and societies.
- The applicant must check their MyNSFAS portal for their application’s outcome. Universities will be informed of the funding eligibility status of applicants and returning students by NSFAS.
- After registering, eligible students will submit their registration fees to NSFAS, which represents the cost of their education. After receiving and processing the registration cost data, NSFAS will not confirm the actual funding amount.
- It’s important to remember that NSFAS doesn’t know what program of study an applicant is applying for until the registration data are sent in. A student may be eligible for funding but enroll in an unfunded course. In this instance, NSFAS will not process or award any funding. As a result, it is the applicant’s responsibility to familiarize themselves with the list of NSFAS-funded programs that can be found on their website.
Eligibility criteria for financial aid
NSFAS will provide UCT with the necessary application information that demonstrates eligibility for funding.
The eligibility requirements outlined below are checked against each and every NSFAS application:
- South African citizens and permanent residents First undergraduate qualification Financial eligibility If the student has previously attended a tertiary institution, the N+1 rule applies to the number of years of attendance.
The LAWP01, PGCE, and PGDA programs, as well as the post-degree law program, are no longer supported.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is comprehensive funding based on approved costs of study. The approved cost of the study is set annually by the Department of Higher Education and Training National Bursary Rules and Guidelines.
NSFAS will allocate funding to eligible students based on their approved cost of study; this does not include cover for clubs and societies or any penalties.
Applicants must check their MyNSFAS portal for the outcome of their application. NSFAS will advise Universities of applicants and returning students funding eligibility status.
The registration (cost of study) costs will be submitted to NSFAS for eligible students after registration. NSFAS will only confirm the actual funding amount once registration cost data is received and processed by NSFAS.
It is important to note that NSFAS is not aware of the program of study an applicant registers for until registration data is submitted. A student may have a funding eligible status, but registers for an unfunded course. NSFAS will not process/award any funding in this instance. It is therefore the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that they are familiar with the list of NSFAS-funded programs (available on their website).
