In order to assist young people in South Africa in realizing their full potential, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is returning.
The purpose of this bursary program is to provide assistance to exceptional students who require financial support for their studies.

Students enrolled in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and universities in South Africa receive financial assistance from NSFAS to cover the costs of registration, tuition, and allowances for books, food, transportation, and lodging.

  • Every year, applications for NSFAS bursaries open in in September and close on November 30.

You can apply online: www.nsfas.org.za

If you are already registered with NSFAS, the following steps can be taken to update your account details:

  • Go to nsfas.org.za and log in.
  • Enter your username and password on the page that says you are already registered.
    Click the “sign in” button to log in.
    Under “My Personal Details,” delete the incorrect cell phone number and replace it with the correct one. Select “update details” from the drop-down menu to do the same with other incorrect information.
    A one-time pin (OTP) will be issued to the new cell phone number.
    You will be asked to enter and submit the OTP on the NSFAS website once you have it.
    After this is finished, your data will be updated.
    Contact information modifications can still be made manually.
    This requires sending an affidavit stating that the mobile phone number has changed (both the old and new numbers must be noted) to uds@nsfas.org.za along with a certified copy of an ID book or smart card.

NSFAS registration is required.

To make an NSFAS profile, follow these steps:

    From the drop-down menu, select “MyNSFAS Account.”
    Create a profile and an account.
    After submitting your application, you should receive an acknowledgement from NSFAS within a week.
    Please contact the NSFAS Toll Free Call Center at (08000 673 27) if your application is not acknowledged.

  • You will receive an email with a link to sign up for online services; click the link to continue.

Step 2:

  • A One-Time Pin (OTP) SMS will be sent to your registered mobile phone number after you enter your ID number.

Step 3:

  • Enter the received OTP to continue signing the agreement.

Documents to back up your claim

Make sure you have certified and legal copies of the following documents before applying for funding:

  • your identity card or other documents from South Africa (or an unabridged birth certificate if you are under 16 years old).
    Identification from your parents or guardians (or, if applicable, their death certificate).
    A pension statement in the form of a pension statement, pay advice, or a pay letter (SASSA slips are not required, and SASSA should not be included as household income).
    a consent form that can be obtained here and must be completed with the signatures of your parents or guardians.
    Applications will be rejected and deemed incomplete if they do not include a consent document signed by all individuals whose incomes have been stated.
    Please complete the Disability Annexure A and attach it to your application at www.nsfas.org.za if you have a disability.

Please note that all certified documents must have a stamp that is no more than three months old.

  • You are eligible to apply if you are a citizen of South Africa, have a household income of less than R350,000, are enrolled at this institution, and have not been approved for NSFAS financing in 2018.
    You are enrolled at this institution but have never applied for NSFAS financing. You are a South African citizen with a family income of less than R350,000.
    You are a citizen of South Africa and have a household income of less than R350,000. In order to attend a public university or TVET college in 2024-2025, you require financial assistance.

Kindly note: that your application will not be considered if you have previously applied for 2021 on www.nsfas.org.za and possess an application reference number.

  • You already have a bachelor’s degree, diploma, or postgraduate degree, with the following exceptions:
    BTech degrees include Architecture/Architectural Technology, Cartography, Forestry, Engineering (all fields), Biokinetics, Biomedical Technology, and Biotechnology.
    BTech BTech – Clinical or Dental Technology, Emergency Medical Care BTech – Clinical or Dental Education Postgraduate Certificate LLB with a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting BTech BTech – Clinical or Dental Technology, Emergency Medical Care BTech – Clinical or Dental Education BTech – Clinical or Dental Technology, Emergency Medical Care BTech – Clinical or Dental Education
