Ladysmith Technical College was founded in the early 1960s by the Department of Education and Culture. The company’s first offering was adult self-enrichment courses. The college’s business courses, which ranged from N1 through N3, were codified by 1984. In 1991, this was increased to N4–N6 in both Business and Engineering degrees.
Ezakheni Technical College and Skills Centre was founded in the early 1980s by the then-Department of Education. Both training institutions offered block-release artisan education as well as three-month short skills courses in plumbing, motor mechanics, welding, and carpentry. In the 1990s, Nated courses ranging from N1 to N6 Engineering courses were available. On the banks of the Klipriver, the College’s Central Office and Ladysmith Campus are located in the center of Ladysmith. The Ezakheni campuses are around 25 kilometers outside of town in Ezakheni Township.

Workshops have been built on this property, and it will be classified as an engineering campus. In 2009, Mnambithi TVET College inherited premises in Estcourt, and a new campus in Bergville will open soon.
