INTRODUCTIONS TO NSFAS
In accordance with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was established.
NSFAS is a bursary program that provides free higher education and training to poor and working-class South African students.

The mission of NSFAS is to provide financial assistance to students from low-income and working-class households who wish to attend public universities and technical colleges

UNISA NSFAS PROGRAMS
Former President Jacob Zuma declared on December 16, 2017, that the South African government will gradually implement “totally subsidized free higher education and training for poor and working-class South African students.”
The money would be phased in over a five-year period, resulting in the establishment of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) Bursary Scheme.

Applications for admission to master’s & doctoral qualifications: 10 September – 8 November 2022
  • Everyone who wants to start a new qualification, including first-time Unisa applicants, Unisa students who want to apply for a new qualification, students in their final year of a qualification who want to start a master’s or doctoral qualification, and previously registered master’s and doctoral students who did not register for the academic year but now want to continue their studies, must apply for admission.

You may apply for the following qualifications outside the prescribed application dates:

Applicants who wish to pursue a multi, inter or transdisciplinary doctoral degree should apply for the Doctor of Philosophy degree (90040-MIT) Please contact the Master’s and Doctoral Administration Section for assistance (011 471 3296; mandd@unisa.ac.za).
College of Science, Engineering and Technology (excluding Computing students) Please contact the Master’s and Doctoral Administration Section for assistance (011 471 3296; mandd@unisa.ac.za).
Decision Sciences Please contact the Master’s and Doctoral Administration Section for assistance (012 441 5702; mandd@unisa.ac.za).
Master of Science in Nature Conservation (full dissertation) (98022) Please contact the Master’s and Doctoral Administration Section for assistance (011 471 3296; mandd@unisa.ac.za).
Selection degrees Selection degrees (qualification codes: 90042, 98511, 98402, 98594 and 98420) have different closing dates for applications and are administered by the respective academic departments. Only a limited number of students are selected per academic year.
