INTRODUCTION TO EKURHULENI WEST TVET COLLEGE

The FET Colleges Act no 16 of 2006, as modified, regulates Ekurhuleni West Technical, Vocational, Education and Training College (EWC). It was formed under the Further Education and Training Act, Act No. 98 of 1998, as stated by the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education (Gauteng Province) in an Extraordinary Provincial Gazette (dated 7 December 2001).

The Ekurhuleni West TVET College is located in the Gauteng Province of South Africa, in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. Alberton, Boksburg, Germiston, Kathorus (near Katlehong/ Vosloorus/ Thokoza), Kempton (in Kempton Park), and Tembisa are the six (6) campuses that make up EWC.

The name “Ekurhuleni” is derived from the geographical and municipal areas (the Southern Service Delivery Regions [SDR]), which include Germiston (as regional centre), Alberton, areas of Boksburg, Katlehong, Thokoza, Vosloorus, and sections of Freeway Park, and the Northern Service Delivery Region [SDR], which includes Kempton Park (as regional centre), Tembisa, Edenvale, including Bedfordview and Primrose.

  • The deadline for applications is November 30, 2023.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

National Certificate (vocational) NQF Courses

Requirements for Admission:

  • A prospective student must have a Grade 9 pass or a higher qualification / ABET Level 4; OR a NQF Level 1 qualification to enroll in any of the NC(V) qualifications at NQF Level 2.
  • To enroll for NQF Level 3: proficiency in NQF Level 2 learning outcomes; to enroll for NQF Level 4: competency in NQF Level 3 learning outcomes.

 Requirements for pass

  • You must pass all SEVEN subjects to obtain the NC(V) qualification at a particular level and to progress to the next NQF Level
  • The pass requirement for the four vocational subjects is 50% per subject
  • The pass requirement for the fundamentals subjects is as follows
    • Life Orientation – 40%
    • English First Additional Language – 40%
    • Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy – 30%

Requirements for NC(V) Courses;

The students are permitted to study for a maximum of four years for NC (V) Levels 2, 3, and 4 taking into account possible subject failures.

  • Minimum entrance requirements are NQF1 i.e. Grade 9 and AET Level 4
  • Entry requirements have been guided and aligned to the NC (V) policy. A point system for entry into qualifications will be utilized.

 Report 191 Courses Requirements

  • Minimum entrance requirements as aligned by the NATED Policy. Students who have passed to Grade 12/NC (V) Level 4 will be admitted to N4.
  • Students who have passed grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 who want to pursue an artisan career will be admitted to N1 based on a point system

 Occupational Courses Requirements

  • Minimum entrance requirements as per registered Skills Program/Learnership approved by QCTO/SETA
  • To be eligible to apply for an Occupational Program a student who previously enrolled for NC(V) or Report 191 programs will only be considered if such a student has fully completed the NC(V) or Report 191 program (passed all subjects).

Additional Requirements for Admission

  • In order to improve the quality and performance of specialized programs, the College Council has established additional entry requirements for NC(V) level 2, Report 191 N1, and Report 191 N4 using a point system.

NOTE:

  • Only ONE essential subject may be excused for up to 5% of the grade.
  • Vocational disciplines are not exempt.
